Yoga Shala

The Mirage is available to yoga teachers to bring their students for residencies/retreats of whatever duration suits them. We can comfortably accommodate 18 guests, depending on whether or not twin-sharing is an option. All meals are available from our excellent kitchen, vegetarian & non-vegetarian. We grow many of our own vegetables, organically. Fresh juices are also available, on request.

The newly built yoga centre is being used for hosting both yoga sessions of yoga groups and rehearsal sessions of theatre groups in residency. Facing the Yoga shala is our newly built swimming pool. Apart from other activities, many walks, from easy strolls through the fields to treks for the fit along the jungle paths are possible around The Mirage. The space is also available to artists from other fields.

(5th to 10th November, 2019)

I first met Denis at a Himalayan wedding in 2008 which I was invited to along with one of my yoga holiday groups and in 2011, remembering his offer for me to pay him a visit, finally brought a group to stay at his tucked away homestay, in the peaceful, rural artist’s village of Andretta. I revisited The Mirage again with a yoga group in 2012 and 2017 and am looking forward to my fourth visit in 2019.

With homecooked food, friendly warm staff, comfortable accommodation with quirky antiques and even an electric blanket for the cool nights, and bird song and the slow- paced life of the local people, one cannot help but feel immersed in the quiet beauty of India culture.

For yoga and meditation practice there is a super glass yoga shala amidst a bamboo grove and I am looking forward to the luxury of a swimming pool and spa which are presently being constructed which will surly enhance the serene experience of being at The Mirage.

With every visit I have discovered new treasures of history, beauty, and culture, and being Denis’s home, one always meets friends who come to visit and share conversations, stories, food, wine and laughter. Having lived in India for many years, the New Zealand born Denis has a wealth of local knowledge and can guide you on memorable walks and answer questions about the area.

For a homely experience, a nature retreat, and something a little bit different, you will be well looked after and take home a glowing warmth in your heart and a longing to return.

“A semester abroad in a quiet Gujarati village and many more visits navigating India’s chaotic beauty have taught me more about the practice of yoga than what can possibly be learned on the mat. Amidst the country's kaleidoscope of sights, scents and colours are all lessons — in patience, equanimity and surrender. In other words, India is living yoga in its very essence.”—Leigh Khoo

This December, join Leigh for an intimate six-day winter retreat to the artists’ colony of Andretta in North India’s Himachal Pradesh. For decades, artists and writers have been drawn to this area to contemplate the deeper aspects of life, and that is exactly what we will do in the company of like-minded yogis. Stripped bare of our daily routines and habitual clutter, we will explore yoga, pranayama and meditation practices. There will also be plenty of downtime to soak in the ethereal beauty of mild, sunlit days and cosy nights by the fire. Hide out in the library for an afternoon of reading, spend some meditative time at the wheel in a nearby pottery studio, or simply nurse a cup of tea on the patio as you stare out at snow-capped mountains.
