Mrs. Bhandari’s by The Mirage

An oasis in the chaos that is Amritsar with old fashioned service, expansive gardens, and excellent home made fresh food. The 1930s colonial style house stands as a timeless emblem of elegance and historical charm.

A Brief History

Planned and built by Rustomjee Mulhaferoz, this magnificent British Raj Bungalow later came to his niece Tahmi Boga. Tahmi Boga married a barrister fresh from England, Padam Chand Bhandari, from a prestigious Hindu family. A Hindu-Parsi love marriage, unheard of in those times. Padam Chand Bhandari moved in with Tahmi, avoiding the traditional Hindu joint family rules where, being a Parsi bride, she wasn’t quite welcome.

Mr. Bhandari was elected the executive officer of Amritsar, equal to the mayor of today. He accumulated a great degree of renown and prestige. The bridge connecting the old city with the new, is named after him.

Upon the early passing of Mr. Bhandari, with the help of her family friends Mrs. Bhandari was able to secure a license to run a guest house in the army cantonment area. Just as Bhandari bridge connects old city to the new city, so does Mrs.Bhandari’s Guest House prove to be the perfect conduit between the grandeur of a bygone era and today’s fast paced life.
