Luxury property for 4 to 10 people in unspoilt Italian medieval hilltop village: a foodie’s paradise.

Casa degli Orsi comprises two houses facing each other across an enclosed courtyard with a vast terrace and plunge-pool. There are extensive views across the wooded and vine-covered valley to ancient hilltop villages.

One house can sleep 4/5 people in double and twin bedrooms and a sofa-bed in the study. This house has a large kitchen/dining room, a large sitting room and a gallery, as well as two bathrooms and a WC.

The other house can sleep six in three double bedrooms each with its own bathroom.

The Village

Orsara Bormida is a medieval hilltop village with a castello and three churches, a trattoria/bar/cafe, village shop, hairdresser, and post office. The nearest town is Acqui Terme (10 minutes), an ancient spa town that has many superb restaurants, ice cream parlours, patisseries, artisan shops, etc as well as a roman aqueduct and museum.

The Region

Piedmont is a region in northwest Italy renowned for its wines and cuisine. The capital Turin is an hour and a half’s drive. Genoa and the Mediterranean Sea an hour. Casa degli Orsi is the perfect base for exploring neighbouring France and Switzerland, the drive to Nice or Monaco being just about 3 hours.

Things to do

Food markets three times a week. Antique markers each Sunday. Our property has a spacious light studio for painters and sculptors - and a full-size ping-pong table. Gorgeous walks to hilltop villages through Unesco vineyards with stunning views. Vineyard tours. Day trip to the sea. Visit Milan, Turin, Genoa – and perhaps Parma and Brescia.

The rental for both houses is €3000 for a week; but for families of 4/5, the main house can be rented on its own for €2000 a week, with exclusive use of the whole property.

Getting there : Fly in to Milan Malpensa Airport, Italy. The drive from Milan Airport to Casa degli Orsi is a little over 90 minutes, for which you can rent a car at the airport. Or fly in to Rome and then change onto a local flight to Genoa which is an hour's drive from the property.
